LYRA NOCTURNO presents
Cuong Hung Van and James Aaron Martin in Concert
In a Celebration of the Bicentennial Birth Date of Frederic Chopin
Loudoun Lyric Opera is pleased to announce that the newly formed orchestra Lyra Nocturno has been founded by LLO Music Director Cuong Hung Van with James Aaron Martin. This independent organization plans to work with Loudoun Lyric Opera in future. We congratulate Cuong and invite you to Lyra Nocturno's first performances, described below. All tickets at the door.

CUONG HUNG VAN on piano Recipient of many international awards, Loudoun Lyric Oper's Founding Music Director Cuong Hung Van has performed throughout the U.S., Asia, Australia & Europe. While a student at Saigon Conservatory, he was awarded a scholarship to study at Moscow State Conservatory under Victor Merzhanov. He earned his Master's in Orchestral Conducting at the Cleveland Institute of Music under Paul Schenly and Daniel Shapiro and is now pursuing his Doctorate at Shenandoah University. He serves on the faculty of Shenandoah University and Northern Virginia Community College. Recent concert engagements include Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian Institution, the World Festival Symphony in Cincinnati, and the Saigon Ballet & Orchestra. In December of 09, he conducted the Ho Chi Minh City Orchestra of Vietnam. |

JAMES AARON MARTIN on trombone A graduate of Shenandoah University, James recently earned a Masters of Music in Pedagogy and performance from The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark. He has performed with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, and the Aarhus String Ensemble. As a soloist he has performed with the Shippensburg Community Orchestra, the Danish Youth Trombones, and premiered a new trombone concerto composed by Craig Pellet. In May, James will be playing fo rhte highly selective Marknuekirchen International Soloist Competition in Dresden against top trombone players from around the world. |
